Lighting design: More than just the right lamp
Light shapes how we perceive spaces, alters proportions and highlights materials. Good lighting design therefore begins long before the selection of individual light fittings.

Light needs layers
A balanced lighting concept combines different functions: ambient lighting provides orientation, task lighting supports activities such as reading or cooking, and accent lighting highlights architecture, art or special materials.
In high-end apartments in particular, quality is created through this interplay. Instead of illuminating rooms uniformly, light zones are created that adapt to usage, time of day and mood.

Daylight as part of the design
Natural light is also part of lighting design. Window sizes, orientation and sightlines determine how a room changes throughout the day. South-facing living areas benefit from plenty of daylight, while well-considered shading and supplementary lighting ensure balance.
Good planning therefore considers daylight and artificial lighting together. Especially in open-plan living, dining and kitchen areas, this allows different zones to be defined without losing their sense of spatial generosity.
Materials react to light
Wood, natural stone, metal or textile surfaces only reveal their true character in the right light. Colour temperature, direction and intensity directly influence colours and textures. In high-quality interior design, lighting should therefore be coordinated with the material concept at an early stage.
This creates a living space whose atmosphere changes without losing its character.

Light as part of the architecture at Werk Hagedorn
At Werk Hagedorn in Hamburg-Harvestehude, light is considered an integral part of the spatial design. High ceilings, clear sightlines and excellent south-facing orientation create bright living areas; the project description explicitly mentions harmonious lighting as part of the interior concept.
In combination with oak parquet, selected materials and generous room sequences, this creates an architecture where light is not just an afterthought added by a lamp, but is already part of the design.
Good lighting design makes architecture visible – and allows rooms to be experienced anew at different times of the day.
